Chicago is known for its hot dogs, skyscrapers and politicians (is that why they call it the “Windy City?”). On Sept. 18, the wind will really be whipping by as NASCAR kicks off its 2011 Sprint Cup Series Championship at the Chicagoland Speedway with the GEICO 400.

ESPN will broadcast the event, and more than 75,000 fans will line the track as their favorite drivers begin the chase for NASCAR’s coveted championship. Of course our favorite driver, Casey Mears, will be participating, so keep an eye out for the #13 GEICO Toyota Camry.

Also watch for the GEICO Caveman. The easily offended troglodyte has been named Grand Marshal for the event. Before Medal of Honor recipient Jon Cavaiani waves the flag to start the race, the Caveman will bellow the most-recognized words in motorsports when he instructs the drivers, “Gentlemen, start your engines.” (Wonder if he knows how easy that is?)
