At GEICO, college recruiting is more than just going on campus to find great talent. We’re also proud of the support we can lend to students who demonstrate what it takes to be successful in business and life. One of the ways we provide such support is through the GEICO Achievement Award Program. As the manager of GEICO’s National College Recruiting team, I am pleased to recognize these 64 outstanding college undergraduates who stood out among hundreds of applicants.

Last year, we shared the program details and gave a little insight on why GEICO has been offering Achievement Awards for more than 20 years. Now, I’d like to share my favorite aspect of this program: the entertaining stories about how our college recruiters surprise some of our unsuspecting recipients.

This past semester, the Gecko visited a college Economics class to surprise a student with an oversized check. But, the recipient wasn’t there!  What makes this funny is the YouTube video and commentary recorded by a classmate.  Then there was the individual who received our call and thought we were trying to sell him a policy … and almost hung up on us!

Some of our recruiters – along with a professor, advisor or another student – coordinate elaborate presentations. Like the student who “won” a rigged trivia contest during a business fraternity meeting. The prize? A $1,000 Achievement Award check from GEICO!

I am thrilled at the way this program helps some very talented and thoughtful students achieve their educational goals. And I enjoy the fun we have along the way! If you know a high-achieving college sophomore or junior majoring in business, math or computer science, then I encourage you to learn more about this exciting program.
