GEICO’s CavemanCoaster: what goes up must come down … way down

At the risk of giving Cavemen another reason to resent the company, GEICO plans to sponsor a new, world-class thrill ride, the CavemanCoaster. Although the location cannot be revealed yet as final details are still being negotiated, the CavemanCoaster is scheduled to open April 1, 2011. It will be 4,100 feet long, more than half of which will be underground.

“It’s only fitting that a ride named for Cavemen spend a lot of time below ground,” a GEICO marketing spokesman said. “Sure, some of them have nice cribs, but lots of them still live in caves, right?”

The $41 million CavemanCoaster will hit a top speed of 41 miles per hour during a ride that lasts a minute and 41 seconds. While underground, riders will zoom past scenes from various GEICO Caveman commercials featuring animatronic Cavemen, one of whom will point at the cars and protest, “Not cool!” as the riders go by.

In addition to the underground portion, the ride features two above-ground loops. “After all, Cavemen can be a bit loopy,” the spokesman noted.
