In this new blog series, we will introduce you to our some of our interns so you can hear what it’s like spending a summer at GEICO. Our first post features two interns — one in customer service and the other in our claims department.

MEET COURTNEY

Courtney photoCustomer service intern, Buffalo, N.Y.

Courtney attends Canisius College in Western New York and is majoring in international business with a minor in Spanish. After she graduates in 2014, she hopes to continue her career at GEICO. Courtney took interest in interning at GEICO when she received feedback from a friend who spoke very highly of the experience in one of GEICO’s leadership programs.

What are your three main responsibilities as an intern?

My duties include taking in-bound phone calls, while handling billing, payments and ID card inquiries. I also work on projects for other departments and learn what it takes to be a successful agent and leader in and outside of the classroom. Also, I am participating in a training class with associates in GEICO’s leadership program. This has allowed me to have a better understanding of that program, while gaining hands-on experience, too.

What is your favorite GEICO commercial?

The “Hump Day” commercial – our class plays it every Wednesday!

MEET ARIANA

Claims department intern, Macon, Ga.

Ariana PhotoAriana attends Georgia Tech, and is majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She is graduating this December. She took an interest in interning at GEICO when she learned that GEICO offered projects to their interns and gave them responsibility to solve business problems. GEICO’s initiative to stay current and its willingness to keep up with the ever-changing business environment made it somewhere she wanted to be!

What do you like most about GEICO?

I love that management takes the time to sit down and explain the insurance industry before handing me my next project. It allows me to have a comprehensive view of the company and a better understanding of how my work is helping to improve the business. Mentoring is something I’m fortunate to have found at GEICO because it’s helping to shape me as a leader and help develop my skills this summer.

What is your favorite GEICO commercial?

Definitely the one with Dikembe Mutombo. It cracks me up every single time!
