Abraham Lincoln said it best on Facebook: “I have as of today unfriended General McClellan.” OK, Lincoln never had the chance to post on Facebook, but his beleaguered general certainly would have found the social media site quite useful for landing a great career with a great company. And you can, too!

GEICO’s national and regional recruiters will be online to chat with as many folks as possible between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. EDT June 11-12 in the company’s first Facebook career fair.

“We would love for our associates to share the news about our career fair via their own Facebook pages and help spread the news to their friends who may be looking for new career opportunities,” said Shannon Smedstad, human resources branding and social media lead.

Job seekers can post questions to the GEICO Careers wall on Facebook for recruiters to answer or they can ‘friend’ a recruiter and initiate a one-on-one chat.

“Our recruiters are great ambassadors for GEICO and we thought we’d try to utilize Facebook in a new way,” said Smedstad. “This is a first for our social recruiting efforts and a very low-cost way for to potentially connect with job seekers all across the country.”

There’s even more to “like:” Behind the iconic image of the Gecko on Facebook, GEICO offers potential new hires a look inside the company through photos and videos. There is also a feed of all GEICO positions, so job seekers can easily see what we are hiring for and apply.

So, update your status and spread the word about the Facebook career fair. Mr. Lincoln would have liked that.
