Memory of the Month: Hooping it up

Each month, we share an image from GEICO’s past and invite you to exercise your caption-writing skills.

GEICO dukes it out daily in the insurance marketplace, competing with a host of other companies for customers. And for several years on the straight now, we’ve been the industry’s fastest-growing company, so we must be doing something right.

But the marketplace isn’t the only place where we’ve taken on our rivals. There have been times in GEICO’s history when we’ve competed against other companies at sports, too. In this 1960s photo, GEICO takes on Aetna in a basketball clash for the ages.

Look closely at the referee in the background – he seems to be calling an infraction on someone. What could it be?

*guy with basketball* “Ah-you can do this, but can ya do that, you can do this, but can ya do that, you can do this, but can ya do that? I’m talkin’ bout – savin’ mu-u-uney for my – customers – say – y’all can’t see me, too fast for you!”

*Others* “Oh for Pete’s sakes, just shoot the darn ball and score the shot already!”

GEICO – showin’ ya how it’s done for over 75 years. =)

We need to get another basketball team going. I’m in.

The refs calling T-ing up AETNA for not punching out the bottom of GEICO’s peach basket and allowing AETNA an unfair advantage getting back on D.

BTW, is that Red Auerbach I see in the benches scouting both teams? I guess the game must have been at Foggy Bottom.

  8. Jason says:

Let’s split into teams, shorts vs. short shorts!

  9. Barbara says:

Okay teams, time’s up.  The marching band needs the gym for practice and the music teacher’s on overtime!  Lets go!

  10. ADAM says:

I think the infraction that is being called is that those shorts are too short!
