Each month, we share an image from GEICO’s past and invite you to exercise your caption-writing skills.
Here we are on the Enterprise, where Mr. Spock is showing a group of Retrovian ambassadors around the starship’s technology center.
OK, not really. Although it does look like there’s a tour in progress here, this late-1960s photo wasn’t shot at some Hollywood studio, but at GEICO’s headquarters, somewhere deep inside the company’s state-of-the-art data processing center. Of course, there’s not a cloud in sight – get a load of the tape storage devices!
We’ve come a long way technologically since this photo was shot. These days your home computer – heck, even your smartphone – packs more processing punch than this roomful of sturdy devices. And you can go to geico.com and use your phone or laptop to transact most of your business with GEICO these days, especially if you’ve downloaded the GEICO App.
Still … some of this hardware really would look right at home on the bridge of the Enterprise, wouldn’t it?

It is a humbling to realize that today’s I Phone posesses more computing power than the US Government had in 1960.
“I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.”
Enough with the Technical bologna. This companies about people
The guy in the back (on right) is thinking: “Whew, this calls for a smoke break! I wonder if they will notice?”
It’s a little-known fact that Queen Elizabeth II once visited GEICO; she was not amused.
It does appear to be smoke rising from the man in the back. Good observation. Could you imagine being able to smoke in that situation.
After waiting over an hour after placing their lunch order, the new associates slowly start to doubt that the gentleman that took their money was an actual employee of the lunch counter.
The temperature is a cool 55 degrees in this room 24/7. Sweaters are the correct business attire.
“I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do with a lifetime’s supply of chocolate. ”
that moniter looks better than the ones in this office
Hey we have that chair in our office.
Was this “Bring Your Mom to Work Day?” and is that guy in the back wearing a tux????
These comments are cracking me up, Too funny
I must be showing my age, but my first computer ops job was handling the card punch machine for the data input at Rockwell Intl. circa 1971
“Ahhh… so this why ECF crashes all the time.”
This is a scene from the Terminator prequel. Grandma Connor is preparing to destroy Skynet 1968!
Guy in the suit in front: “…And once the information is in the computer, it will take approximately 14 months to give us the correct trajectory of the next Tribble infestation….”
Guy, leaning over in the back: “I’d better have a smoke first.”
Guy next to lady: “Wish I could smoke, but my wife here would beat me…”
Guy wearing bow tie: “This is so not a black tie affair….”
CCrraaaaPPPP!!! i saw those reel-y things and thought we were coming to see a silent movie…. they never let anybody have any kind of fun around here!!
