The Gecko takes a social media trip across America

How long would it take a gecko to travel from sea to shining sea? While GEICO’s new commercials may offer brief glimpses into the Gecko’s journey across America (so far leading him from the office parking lot to New York City and Texas), his journey will be far more comprehensive and interactive online thanks to social media.

Using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media portals, the Gecko will be posting updates from the road, including pictures and videos from his unique diminutive perspective. What does a GEICO office look like to a gecko? Where would a gecko go in New York? These questions and many, many more will be answered.

Perhaps the best part is the interactivity made possible by social media; not only will fans of the Gecko be able to follow along with his journey, but they’ll also be able to affect his journey by making recommendations of the hottest local spots. Know a great place to eat in Dallas? Let the Gecko know and he just might end up there.

All of this is made possible by the Gecko Tracker, a unique application built specifically for the journey. There, you can view a map of all of the Gecko’s stops, see where he’ll be going next, and submit suggestions directly to him. It’s also a great way to see all of his updates, photos and videos in one convenient place. Visit http://www.geico.com/journey to start tracking his journey now.

To get the most out of the Gecko Journey experience, you can also follow along with his updates on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/thegeicogecko) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/thegeicogecko). You never know when the Gecko will be in your town!

I am a sucker for Gecko dancing the Texas 2-step.  I have danced across Texas more than once and I invite Geico to invite me to dance with Gecko.  You gotta put a Resitol 20x beaver hat on him, a pair of Rio Mercedes boots, starched Wranglers and a George Strait shirt.  Then he and I can put on a Texas show!
I double dare you to call me and set up our filming date!
