Ahoy! You probably didn’t get the day off work or school for today’s very important—but little known— holiday. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. The premise is simple. Just talk like a pirate all day on September 19.
Need help? You’re in the right place, matey.
Some Simple Terms
You can start by reading the history of how this all started to give you a little motivation. And in case you need to explain the parrot on your shoulder to your boss. Here’s some pirate lingo, me hearties!
Ahoy! – “Hello!”
Arrrr! – Just say this a lot.
Aye! – “I agree!” Say it twice for the full affect.
Avast! – Stop and pay attention.
The Jolly Roger – The pirate flag
Hearties – Shipmates or friends
Yo ho ho – Pirate laughter
Pirates on the Internets?
Even geico.com has been taken over by buccaneers today. I mean, insurance is pretty important when you need to protect yer bountiful booty from ye scallywag, scurvy dogs and other perils, at sea or ashore. Just go to our homepage and look for the Jolly Roger.
Finally, if you comment on this blog post, you should certainly do so in pirate-speak. Shiver me timbers!
