Top 10 Halloween films — what’s your favorite scary movie?

Everyone loves a good scary movie around Halloween. If you’re headed to the theaters this weekend, Paranormal Activity 2 and Saw 3D will make you hold that popcorn a little tighter. Prefer to lock yourself in the house while watching a scary movie? Then put the kids to bed, turn off the lights, and have your own Halloween film festival.

I’ve put together 10 of my favorites, although it wasn’t easy to stop at 10. I’ll let you add to the list in the comments.

    The original Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock and the original Halloween by John Carpenter are the best.

    Prefer the fantasy variety rather than gruesome and gory, real life, shock dramas like Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of The Lambs. And how about “Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein” for Halloween fun that the younger kids can enjoy too!

    Every year since he was a babe we’d watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on Halloween.  We still do have it on as we dole out candy & yuck it up with neighbors.  But, our new favorite (only augmented by the new prequel of the same name) is “The Thing“.  Great scary flick.  The first horror movie he watched, though, is called The Descent. I recommend.

    Since I have young grandchildren around at Halloween, I prefer Halloween classics that are more funny than scary. Their all time favorite of course is It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, along with Hocus Pocus.
