If you’re like me – and I’ll bet you are – you like to keep busy over the weekends. Well, here are a few things to do this weekend — and make sure you look for the GEICO tent or the Gecko if you head out to any of these places!

If you’re a speed demon and in the Charlotte, N.C., area, make sure to attend the 3rd Annual NHRA Carolinas Nationals and wish the GEICO Powersports NHRA Team good luck! For speed in offshore racing, the world’s fastest powerboat, Miss GEICO, will be in Atlantic City, N.J., this weekend.

Baseball lovers take note: the Gecko may show up at the Phillies game in Philadelphia, Pa., or the Orioles game in Baltimore, Md., depending on his schedule. College football fans, we’ll be at Auburn when they play Clemson this weekend — while you’re there, check out Caveman and Me at the GEICO tent. We’ll also be in Seattle, Wash., when the Huskies play Nebraska.

For your more creative side, explore the Atlanta Arts Fest in Atlanta, Ga., featuring several demonstrations and classes. And September is Arts Month in San Diego, Calif., so if you’re in that area, check out Artwalk on the Bay. In Columbia, Md., the HFStival is a great concert with Third Eye Blind, Billy Idol and Everclear, among others. In Charlotte, N.C., we will be hanging out at the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert on Sunday.

Wine lovers on the East Coast can visit us at the Virginia Wine Festival in Centreville, Va., and in Grapevine, Texas, visit the 24th Annual Grapefest for the largest wine festival in the Southwest. In the Albany, N.Y., area, make sure you visit the 18th Annual Capital Region Apple Festival and Wine Festival for handmade crafts, wine tastings, a farmers market and cooking demonstrations. In Hilo, Hawaii, we will be at the Hawaii County Fair and in Honolulu we will be visiting our friends at the Hawaii State Bar Association Convention. In Phoenix, Ariz., we will be at the nation’s largest women’s expo, the Ultimate Women’s Expo, where Kirstie Alley and Helen Hunt will be keynote speakers.

For those of you who like things up in the air, check out the Oceana Air Show 2010 in Virginia Beach, Va. Stop by the GEICO tent at the York Fair, America’s oldest fair, in York, Pa. Visit the GEICO tent at the 29th Annual Celebrate Gaithersburg event in Gaithersburg, Md., with lots of food and kid-friendly entertainment including a petting zoo and juggling classes! In Hollywood, Fla., the Hollywood Beach Latin Festival is in its 17th year showcasing Latin culture. Finally, in Cincinnati, Ohio, celebrate with brats, sauerkraut and lederhosen at the Zinzinnati Ocktoberfest, where the chicken dance is always a big part of the festivities!

We hope you enjoy your weekend and let us know if you head out to any of these events — or anything you happen to be doing this weekend. We’d love to hear from you!

I sure do love me some Gecko, uh hmm. A rep gave me a night light years ago and it’s one of my favorite collector items. Sure wish yall would come on further south, like down here in the swamp lands of South Carolina. Got lots of live geckos running around here, also their cousins, the gators, etc. Could you please let me know when yall will be soming my way?

Of course you can always come down to Roatan (Honduras) and pay us a visit too when I return in November…

If we won’t be in Sonoma or South Carolina this weekend, we’ll get there soon!  Thanks for posting… we’ll definitely make a note about the vintage festival, Rosemarie.  Linda, glad you are still using the night light.  We’ll let the Gecko know!

Would LOVE to find one of those night lights!! Are they still around? I just love the Gecko!

The Gecko should check out the Catoctin Colorfest the second weekend in October.  What started as a simple nature walk through the nearby mountains has grown into one of the ten largest craft shows on the east coast.  There are lots of local crafts and artisans as well as those from all over the country.  Many folks come every year to browse and buy special Christmas gifts for family and friends.  Visit local orchards for the freshest produce around or enjoy a nature walk to Cunningham Falls.  It is two full days of fun for the whole family.

For those on the east coast and a big geek like me, there is also the Magic the Gathering: Scars of Mirrodin pre-release at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County location. 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD 21250. Doors open at 9 am Saturday and numerous games running all day.

The commercial about wood chucks and saving money with Geico would be Yes to both. However a wood chuck actually does not chuck wood, so are they saying that you do not actually save money with Geico?

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see groundhog (disambiguation) and woodchuck (disambiguation).
The etymology of the name woodchuck is unrelated to wood or chucking. It stems from an Algonquian (possibly Narragansett) name for the animal, wuchak. Nevertheless, the apparent relationship between the two words has led to the common tongue-twister:
” How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood! “[12]
